I sort of LJ died for awhile. By sort of, I mean I checked communities regularly but I was no longer posting in my own journal. Now that i've gotten completely sick of looking at the same old entries from last year I decided to sweep it clean and start over.

Today I went to a family gathering on my mom's side- they do it once a month to celebrate all the birthdays of that month. During dinner, Obama's inaugural speech was brought up and my entirely republican family decided to rip obama a new one about it. I kept quiet as I like to avoid confrontation but eventually my dad started getting ridiculous about it so I chimed in "I think his speech was amazing". His response? "YOU'RE WRONG", in a vile and demeaning tone. I stated firmly "There is no right or wrong in the matter, it is my own opinion and i'm entitled to it and to suggest otherwise makes you seem unintelligent". After saying this my dad called me a "fucking smartass" and scolded me for being disrespectful in front of my entire family during a meal. This is why I don't talk politics with people- knowing arrogant assholes like my father makes one a little weary of others.

Hello.  My name is Becca, and though it appears as though I am new to livejournal, I have actually been using LJ since 2003, updating quite religiously infact.  So why the new journal?  On my other account, I've friended people who are actively in my everyday life, thus I found myself  restricting what I was writing about. So, I suppose the purpose of this journal is to be 100% open about everything.

To tell you a little about myself, i'm 18 and I currently live in Michigan (metro-detroit area).  I just graduated high school and will be starting cosmetology school in the fall after much debate as to whether to pursue a career in makeup artistry or in the arts...my life basically consists of art. Photography and graphic design are two of my greatest passions, so who knows. Perhaps I WILL end up at art school.  I have a sister, Laura, a year and a half older than me whom i'm quite close with.  I don't have a steady job right now, I did...as a coffee house singer with my boyfriend, Conner, but work was conflicting with our relationship so I quit.  I still go in and sing with him sometimes, though.   That's another passion of mine, by the way...music. I don't restrict myself to one genre, i'm pretty open to different genres.  I love studying the make ups of different styles, dissecting lyrics, etc. I could spend hours doing that. I couldn't tell you what my favorite bands are as I go through phases. Example, l'm listening to the shins right now, before that was creedance clearwater revival, and prior to that was simon and garfunkel...ha.

I think that's a sufficient amount of information about me for now. More things will unfold in posts to come, i'm sure.
