By sort of, I mean I checked communities regularly but I was no longer posting in my own journal. Now that i've gotten completely sick of looking at the same old entries from last year I decided to sweep it clean and start over. <br /><br />Today I went to a family gathering on my mom's side- they do it once a month to celebrate all the birthdays of that month. During dinner, Obama's inaugural speech was brought up and my entirely republican family decided to rip obama a new one about it. I kept quiet as I like to avoid confrontation but eventually my dad started getting ridiculous about it so I chimed in "I think his speech was amazing". His response? "YOU'RE WRONG", in a vile and demeaning tone. I stated firmly "There is no right or wrong in the matter, it is my own opinion and i'm entitled to it and to suggest otherwise makes you seem unintelligent". After saying this my dad called me a "fucking smartass" and scolded me for being disrespectful in front of my entire family during a meal. This is why I don't talk politics with people- knowing arrogant assholes like my father makes one a little weary of others.
